The Benefits of Inlays and Onlays

Posted .

If you have decay, you probably understand that there are a few things you might be able to do. For example, you probably know that you can have a cavity filled. You may have also heard that you could need a crown for more severe decay. Still, have you ever considered the benefits of an inlay or an onlay?

As you might have guessed, inlays and onlays are designed to repair a tooth that’s too damaged for a cavity repair but not severe enough to need a crown. The two treatments are very similar, but inlays are placed within the cusps—or bumps—of your teeth and onlays cover at least one cusp.

Finally, please note that inlays and onlays are extremely durable. In fact, you can expect your inlay or onlay to last for up to thirty years. Fortunately, inlays and onlays are made to look like your natural teeth. Similarly, once an inlay or onlay is placed, you’ll be able to chew comfortably again.
